Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council

The Policy Team is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland.

The team develops strong, transformative health policy and advocates across all levels of government for change.

The Policy Team:

  • Works closely with Members to address funding and policy challenges.
  • Analyses the broader policy landscape and produces evidence-based position papers to support QAIHC and the ACCHO sector’s advocacy for better health outcomes.
  • Grounds its work in ongoing consultation with Members, ensuring QAIHC’s policy positions reflect the voice of the sector.

Once these positions are established, the Policy Team further engages with stakeholders, prepares submissions, and shares policy and advocacy messages widely.

QAIHC advocates for health policies and programs that:

  • Improve access to health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Queensland.
  • Support the delivery of culturally safe healthcare.
